Paiva Walkways and 516 Arouca Bridge private day trip from Porto
500,00€
The journey to Arouca begins immediately after you are picked up from your hotel/accommodation in the city of Porto. The journey will take about 1 hour and will be made in one of our comfortable vehicles, which are always in perfect condition and conform to our high standards of hygiene and comfort.
The Paiva Walkways are a set of wooden pedestrian walkways that cross the Paiva river, in Arouca. With a length of 8.7km (and further 12km planned to be added in the future), they were built along the left bank of the Paiva river, in the Douro river basin, between the Espiunca bridge and the Areinho river beach, thus covering the area known as Paiva's gorge, and are one of the elements of the Arouca Geopark. Due to their proximity to Porto, these walkways are one of the favorite choices for those wanting to get away from the busy life of the city's urban space and connect with nature.
In August 2017, following the success of these walkways, the construction of a 480-meter pedestrian bridge over the Paiva River was awarded, with a budget of around 1.7 million euros, whose transparent suspended floor (built with a sturdy super-metallic mesh) guarantees a unique experience and a fantastic adrenaline rush to all who visit it! At 150 meters high and 1.20 meters width along its entire length, supported by just two cables that connect the two banks of the river in the Paiva's gorge area, this bridge allows you to enjoy the Aguieiras waterfall and the monumental walkways of the Paiva staircase in a unique way.
Your journey on the walkways begins at the Areinho River Beach. The journey takes around 3 hours and you can walk across Bridge 516 (if you wish so) before arriving at your destination in Espiunca, where our guide will be waiting for you. Afterwards, your guide/driver will recommend a restaurant in the Alverenga area so that you can enjoy a good lunch (costs not included) if you wish. Arouca's gastronomy is rich and diverse, with famous sweets, excellent regional wines and delicious regional dishes, made with meat from animals raised outdoors on the mountain slopes of the Gralheira mountainrange, fed on natural vegetation, which gives the deliciously tender meat an unparalleled flavor. For all these reasons, we strongly recommend that all our customers embark on this gastronomic experience.
After lunch, you will have time to visit the Santa Maria de Arouca Monastery and the Arouca Museum of Sacred Art (entrance fees not included). After these visits, your driver/guide will take you back to your hotel/accommodation in Porto.
